Apparently with every Canon camera released after the 7D Mk II (including the 80D, 5DS, 5DSR and 1DX Mk II) the camera won't return a shutter count to an application through the USB interface. Trying to find a way to get shutter counts on my 80D. You folks have certainly been helpful to me. I placed a copy of the downloaded program, v5.2.1 into my important software backup folders. And each reading refers to the actual serial number of the camera.

It just started working after the $6.99 purchase. Note I didn't need to insert a purchase serial number or anything like that. I unplugged and shut down eosmsg fired a burst and then reconnected to check the count again and sure enough there was the additional 4 shots read. I have been running continuous file numbering so I knew this was very accurate. And there was my count, Shots 5285 Mirror Count 5384. Shut down EosMsg, unplugged the USB cable from my camera, turned the camera off and back on, loaded EosMsg, pressed the Connect Camera button. I waited a couple minutes after making the payment and checked my PayPal account and the correct amount was deducted. This gave me pause, but I really need a solution as I put 117,000 clicks on my 7D last year and want to track my new 80D shutter count. The characters to the right of the black font Paypal word when clicked gave me the option of viewing the page in English. I was greeted with a PayPal payment page in what I believe to be Chinese.

I downloaded the latest version V5.2.1.ĭPR member Fanatics confirmed it work as seen here.Īfter choosing the purchase option after launching.

I'm very knowledgeable with Linux, so I'm confident it is installed correctly (otherwise it wouldn't work with the T3i and T5i that I tested with).Īfter reading through the thread and checking around EosMsg seemed worth the $6.99 for unlimited specific model readings of shutter and mirror counts. Some people have mentioned that they can get the shutter count of the 80D using gphoto2, but I'm not sure how. It works just fine with older Canon cameras (T3i, T5i, etc). Please make sure there is sufficient quoting around the arguments. If you intend to send any error or debug messages to the gphotoĮnv LANG=C gphoto2 -debug -debug-logfile=my-logfile.txt -get-config /main/status/shuttercounter Property '/main/status/shuttercounter' not found.įor debugging messages, please use the -debug option.ĭebugging messages may help finding a solution to your problem. Master:/data # gphoto2 -get-config /main/status/shuttercounter
